About International Women of Courage Award

Established in 2007 by the US State Dept, the award honors women around the globe who have exemplified exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for human rights, women's equality, and social progress, often at great personal risk. U.S. diplomatic missions overseas nominate one woman of courage from their respective host countries. The finalists are selected and approved by senior Department officials. Ceremony on International Women's Day. Most years 9 -10 honorees; hence only a selection will be retained as laureates.
