About Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity

The Aurora Prize aims to recognize and support those who risk their own lives, health or freedom to save the lives, health or freedom of others suffering as a result of violent conflict, atrocity crimes or other major human rights violations. Established at the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide the award is named after a survivor, Aurora Mardiganian, who as a child was forced to witness the deaths of family members. She devoted her life to raising awareness of the genocide and starred in a 1919 film called "Ravished Armenia". The winner gets 100.000 $. The 1 million $ prize money is intended to go to one or more organizations the winners identify as the inspirations for their work.
